If you have driven through Hindmarsh Drive over the weekend, you may have noticed a shiny red addition to the street.

Canberra’s original and most-beloved food truck, which started life selling delicious burgers out of their little red van 11 years ago, has officially reopened on the Southside.

Situated in the car park of Phillip’s Paul’s Centre just off Hindmarsh Drive, Brodburger’s new setup is reminiscent of those early days in Kingston’s Bowen Park car park, and even utilises their original Brod van.

“It’s so nostalgic of being in our little red van by the lake. Only thanks to technology, this time customers won’t need to wait anywhere near as long as they can pre-order online and arrive almost exactly as their burgers are coming off the grill,” says co-owner Sascha Brodbeck.

This is Brodburger’s fourth location, following the opening of their vans at Capital Brewing Co in Fyshwick and Coop at Soho in Dickson, alongside their restaurant in Kingston. The location was chosen after a call out to Canberra was made on social media back in April this year.

“We asked our followers where they wanted us to open next and Woden was the clear standout. Hip Pocket approached us with an opportunity to open in their car park and we decided it was the perfect location, so Brod Woden it was!

“With Canberra’s growth, Woden is becoming the new centre and we’re so excited to be surrounded by great and flourishing businesses here,” says Mr Brodbeck.

Breakfast burgers

With the opening of each new Brodburger comes a menu offering unique only to that location. And Brod Woden is no different, with a menu that now brings customers a brand-new range of breakfast burgers!

“Yes, we’re opening for breakfast here!” says Mr Brodbeck.

“We thought breakfast burgers were fitting for our newest location because we expect so many tradies and early morning risers to pass through the area.

A total of three new breakfast burgers will be available on the menu including the expected favourite, The Don, which features a hash brown, crispy bacon, fried egg, beef patty, mixed lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado, swiss cheese, relish, mayo and tomato or barbeque sauce.

Pop-up café, Little Mez, will also be situated next door, serving up coffee, light snacks and desserts to customers.

Usually, a Brodburger opening would be celebrated with a giveaway of 100 free burgers to entice locals to the new location but given COVID-19 restrictions the little red van opened without the usual celebrations on Friday night.

“With COVID-19 restrictions in place, we’re holding off on our traditional free burger giveaway, but as soon as we can do something fun, we will!” says Mr Brodbeck.

“For now, we will be donating $1 from every burger sold between today and Sunday to the Canberra Hospital Foundation.”
