After months of road closures, Anketell Street in Tuggeranong has reopened to reveal ‘The Big Speed Hump’ and a revitalised dining scene called the South.Life precinct.

The street has been home to a number of long-established eateries and well-known personalities for many years and has recently welcomed many new ones to the neighbourhood.

South.Point Marketing Manager Amy Foster says that it’s an exciting time for Tuggeranong locals with both businesses and government investing in the area.

“Our South.Life precinct has undergone a lot of changes,” says Amy. “We’ve welcomed a number of new cafes and restaurants such as Rashays, La Pasteria, Café Milligram and we are pleased to announce that Mookie Burger will soon be arriving.”

Mookie Burger has chosen the precinct to be home to its second location in Canberra. The new site will give Tuggeranong locals a place to chow down on premium burgers and fries that will satisfy the kids but where the adults can grab a wine or beer as well.

Along with the new dining options, old favourites have seen some improvements and changes, Amy shared.

“Our much-loved dining and café institutions along the street have enjoyed recent upgrades including an expanded outdoor dining area, perfect for patrons as we head into the warmer months.

“These changes will enhance life in the south for locals. They can now browse through a number of dining options along a street with a bit of buzz and atmosphere.”

To celebrate the changes and enjoy the glorious spring weather, the team at South.Point has been busy planning a community event for this coming Saturday, 12 October. The day will feature fun for the whole family, including food, a ride for children, face painting and an inflatable pizza!

“We wanted to celebrate these changes by relaunching South.Life as the south’s one-stop dining destination and we invite the community to head down on Saturday, 12 October for a special event with food and activities for the kids.

“We’re hosting a foodie experience event that will feature delights from our food retailers from South.Life and within the Centre. Plus, there will be free Thomas the Tank Engine train rides and face painting.

“Our retailers will be set up along Anketell Street with a number of delicious offerings for residents to enjoy,” said Amy.

If you take a photo in front of them and upload to social media with the hashtag #SOUTHLIFE, you will go in the draw to win one of 10 $200 vouchers.

“There will also be 500 exclusive gift bags up for grabs! But you will need to register for one before the day.”
