Andrew McLaughlin is an award-winning defence and aerospace journalist with 25 years’ experience.
Starting as a freelance feature writer in 1997, Andrew gradually built up his freelance portfolio before transitioning to a full-time writing career in 2002.
In 2005 he became Deputy Editor of Australian Aviation magazine and, in 2009, Editor of Australian Defence Business Review (ADBR) magazine and the weekly Defence Industry and Aerospace Report (DIAR.com) electronic newsletter.
In 2012 Andrew left the media and worked as a Communications Advisor in the Department of Defence and in defence industry, before returning to the media in 2017 as Managing Editor of ADBR, With the closure of ADBR in June 2022, he has resumed writing as a freelancer.
Andrew has been recognised as the Australia and New Zealand Aviation Press Club’s ‘Aviation Journalist of the Year’ on three occasions, and has won the ‘Best Defence Story’, ‘Best Technical Story’, or ‘Best Feature Story’ categories seven times.
