The Edit is a series produced by Jade Hansen that features the people behind some of Canberra’s most note-worthy fashion, beauty and lifestyle offerings.

This week on The Edit I had the pleasure of talking to Tina Best, Co-Custodian of InSync Yoga Studio. Tina moved to Canberra 14 years ago and admits that it “took some time to get used to”; but slowly she found herself being seduced by the unassuming beauty of our city and all it has to offer and now has a “… deep love affair with the easeful and slow living of this gentle city.”

Our city’s charm

So what is it about this city that has captured her heart? Best explains, “I love the abundant cycle paths, natural parks and beautiful walks around the lakes. I’ve noticed a mellowing in the city with a youthful resurgence in holistic living.” She embraces the communal pocket communities Canberra has to offer and, “the renewed interest in urban and community veggie gardens, farmers markets and seeing the cycle paths peppered with a sense of French joi de vivre”.

The gift of giving and living

So when the opportunity to become Co-Custodian of InSync Yoga studio came about for Tina, she saw it as a way of giving to our gorgeous community. She explains that “teaching yoga has been a ‘Next Chapter’ phase of my life. They say you should find your passion but I think you should find your way of service to others.” She continues: “to see your life as a life of service and therefore to give this gift with love is deeply rewarding. I love the thought that my gift of teaching yoga is a way of giving to others. I have a tremendous belief that in this fast-paced world, folks can benefit from yoga.”

Tina credits yoga for teaching her how to live an easeful lifestyle and Canberra is the perfect city to slow down and enjoy such a way of living. “Yoga is the art of slowing down and simplifying your life. It helps you go deep and tune in – it helps you make wise choices and to connect with what is really important in your life,” she explains.

Village life

Finally, Tina shares her love of the Griffith shops where her studio is located. She affectionately shares that, “this enclave has a wonderful village feel. I could and do spend hours at Mountain Creek Wholefoods. They have a wonderful vegan eatery where you can buy delicious food to take away or to eat outside the shop. They also have a variety of elixirs, potions and lotions to help the wellness enthusiast live a holistic healthy life. I believe that health is the ‘new wealth’ and in all honesty, most of the folk I see in there are positively glowing.”
