For the first time in two years, the largest food and wine festival in the Canberra wine district is returning to Murrumbateman to serve the best food, finest wine and freshest produce the region has to offer.
First held in 2006, the Murrumbateman Moving Feast will be set across a wide selection of wineries and artisan venues to offer a roving degustation of perfectly paired foods with nationally and internationally recognised wines and regional products.
Granitevale Estate owner Greg Birch said 13 wineries would be involved in the festival this year, as well as two local producers – the Murrumbateman Chocolate Company and the Win’s Creek Meadery.
“What basically occurs is that each of the venues put on a savoury dish and a dessert dish, and they’re both at fixed prices,” Greg said.
“The savoury dish is $30 and the dessert dish is $20, and each time a person buys a dish, it comes with a Riedel wine glass valued at $20 with matching wine, and people get to take the glass home.
“The whole event is designed to encourage people to move around as many of the venues that are participating as possible over the two days and experience the matched foods and wines.”
Greg said their last event in 2019 saw more than 10,000 people attend across the weekend.
“It’s really hard to say if it’ll be that big again after two years of COVID, but the festival is a well-supported event and always has been,” he said.
“This is our biggest weekend of the year, and it’s just fantastic to have it go ahead after so long. The last time we ran the Moving Feast, we sold over 600 plates in two days. Then, on top of that, you’ve just got the people that come in and do wine tastings as well.
“It tends to be a very, very successful event for us, and we’re really excited to have it back in 2022.”
Greg said he encourages people to get out and support the local wine industries and producers.
“We go to a lot of trouble to set everything up and make it work as well as we can, to give people the best possible wine, food and local produce experience,” the Granitevale Estate owner said.
“We’ve been doing this for more than 16 years, and I think this year is going to be as good as it’s ever been.”
To soak in the beautiful views, sip the best wines and taste the sensational flavours of fresh foods and produce from our own region, head to selected venues on Saturday, 1 October and Sunday, 2 October.
