Canberra Southern Cross Club will bring back its much-loved Family Fun Day this spring at the yacht club on Sunday 29 September.

The day includes free activities for the children, live music from local artists, lawn games, as well as a chance to get up close and personal with friends from the Canberra Reptile Zoo.

Canberra Southern Cross Club chief executive officer Matt Walshe says it’s the club’s way of celebrating the end of winter and giving back to the community.

“After spending a lot of time indoors over winter, we want to offer the day as a gift to welcome everyone into spring in an exciting way,” Matt says.

The club hosted the annual event for more than a decade until its hiatus over the past four years.

“We’ve had a few years off but we’re so excited to bring it back and make it even bigger and better than it’s ever been,” Matt says.

“It’s such a beautiful day, kids laughing and playing around, plenty of food and drink for the adults and just great times to be had.

“The music we’ve had in previous years always set up a good atmosphere and this year will be no exception.”

Free activities include face painting, balloon sculpting, and a visit from Circus Warehouse which will showcase its performers’ skills.

The Southern Cross Yacht Club is the home of Snapper & Co. but there will be plenty of other tasty treats with a range of food and beverage stalls providing scrumptious options from tacos to ice cream.

The day is not all about the kids. Adults have plenty to look forward to with a huge range of beer, wine and spirits available from the stalls within the event and at Snapper & Co.

Matt says the event is a great chance for the community to get together and an opportunity see work done by the club’s partners year round.

“We’ve got lots of our partners excited to be taking part in the day, from netball clubs to ACT Rescue and Foster to Pegasus Riding for the Disabled, Kidsafe and of course the Canberra Yacht Club all keen to meet and chat with anyone who comes,” he says.

The Family Fun Day is on Sunday 29 September from 11 am to 3 pm. For more information visit Canberra Southern Cross Club.
