Calling all Karens, there’s a US-style diner coming to Canberra and it has your name on it.
Introducing Karen’s Diner, an American-inspired diner known for its great burgers and rude service, where you pay for an experience like no other.
Coming in the form of a pop-up, Karen’s Diner will hit the nation’s capital from 17 to 19 March and again from 21 to 23 April, and take over The Clubhouse Kaleen on Georgina Crescent.
Karen’s Diner director Aden Levin said he was excited to be bringing the dining experience to Canberra.
“We can’t wait to be rude to another city in Australia, it’s very exciting,” Aden said.
“We’re proudly titled ‘The world’s rudest restaurant’ and we provide a dining experience where you can expect rude and sassy waitstaff, some good food and some fun entertainment.
“There’s also lots of games and there’s lots of activities that happen alongside some really rude waiters.”
After being established in Sydney in October 2021, Aden said there were 14 permanent Karen’s Diner stores around Australia, and more than 30 regional towns and cities scheduled for a pop-up within the next year.
Aden said Karen’s offered a unique dining experience.
“We’re a place where we don’t take ourselves too seriously,” the director said.
“People come and have dinner, have a laugh and partake in some stupid games – it’s just a very different kind of dining experience.”
Tickets are $40 per person and include a burger, fries and a soda, as well as the two-hour, full ‘Karen experience’.
There will also be vegan and vegetarian options, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks – we just can’t promise the Karen’s waitresses will be happy about it.
Aden said ‘Karen’s On Tour’ came about after a demand was seen from all over Australia for a Karen’s Diner store.
“There are some areas where we just don’t think it makes sense to open up a full-on store,” Aden said.
“However, we still want to provide all the good people of those cities with the experience, so that’s why we’re doing it as a pop-up.”
Aden said by bringing the Karen’s experience to Canberra, he hoped to attract lots of people, particularly members of parliament.
“We’re just hoping that there’s lots of government officials that we can be talking rude to as well,” he said.
“I think that’s going to be something really exciting.
“We were even debating whether we opened up at Parliament House actually.
“We’re looking forward to coming down. Obviously there’s a lot of expectations, but I think our Karens are well versed to deliver the experience to the good people of the ACT.”
The pop-up will be held in Canberra at The Clubhouse Kaleen at 16 Georgina Cresent, Kaleen.
Sessions for March can be booked for Friday 17 March, at 4 pm and 7 pm, Saturday 18 March, at 10 am, 1 pm, 4 pm and 7 pm, and Sunday 19 March, at 10 am, 1 pm, 4 pm and 7 pm.
Sessions for April can be booked for Friday 21 April, 4 pm and 7 pm, Saturday 22 April, at 1 pm, 4 pm and 7 pm and Sunday, 23 April, from 10 am, 1 pm, 4 pm and 7 pm.
