The stars of one of the most beloved children’s television shows, along with arts and crafts activities, await at Canberra Outlet during these school holidays.

Canberra Outlet will host eight shows and four meet-and-greet sessions at the Elmo and Cookie Monster live stage show in the first week of the holidays, followed by Adventure Zone craft activities taking place for three hours each day on the second week.

After making the trip from the US, the most lovable of monsters from Sesame Street will present the shows designed to entertain children and adults alike, through song and dance with a special message – that it’s OK to make mistakes.

Canberra Outlet manager Bri Nix says the whole team is thrilled to be given the opportunity to welcome the guests.

“It’s going to be an exciting school holiday period for us. We can’t wait to have such celebrated characters around to make sure the kids and adults walk away with a smile on their face,” Bri says.

“We love putting on events like these to make sure kids from all around Canberra have an exciting and educational school holiday.

“The Elmo and Cookie Monster show will be great for people of all ages. The younger kids love Sesame Street and we’re hoping older ones and even the adults might enjoy the show even if just for a bit of nostalgia.”

The show will take place over five days with two shows and a meet-and-greet opportunity running from 10 July outside the Little Amigo kids’ cafe.

In the second week of the holidays, Canberra Outlet is also offering kids a chance to express their creativity.

For those aged five and up looking to unleash their inner artists, the centre is creating a zone dedicated to craft outside Kathmandu all day from 15-21 July.

From animal mask-making and an adventure treat jar to DIY custom binoculars and more, it’s the perfect place to keep the kids entertained.

Bri says the Adventure Zone is the ideal way to keep the kids occupied while parents enjoy shopping at the centre.

“It’s going to be lots of fun and will give the kids the opportunity to burn off some energy and maybe learn a thing or two,” she says.

All entertainment provided is free, with no bookings required.

The Elmo and Cookie Monster live show is on daily from 10 July to 14 July at 11 am and 1 pm, with a daily meet-and-greet at noon.

Adventure Zone creative sessions run from 11 am to 2 pm from 15 July to 21 July:

Monday, 15 July: Craft your own animal masks
Tuesday, 16 July: Create an adventure treat jar
Wednesday, 17 July: DIY custom binoculars
Thursday, 18 July: Create mini jungle jars
Friday, 19 July: Make tasty s’mores for camping
