Located smack bang in the middle of a particular strip of tenancies that have come to encapsulate the growing ‘hip’ culture of Braddon’s Lonsdale Street, Elk & Pea is a casual all-day eatery with a youthful vibe and a tendency toward street food…
Elk & Pea is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and everything in between; and while the offering is a little eclectic, it is fair to say that Mexican flavours dominate. Menus at this all day venue are labelled as Good Morning, Afternoon Delight or After Dark. While the morning offer may be as simple as eggs on toast or a bacon and egg roll, the more adventurous may choose smashed avocado and mushrooms with thyme butter, marinated feta and poached egg washed down with one of their breakfast cocktails.
‘Elk & Pea is a casual all-day eatery with a youthful vibe and a tendency toward street food…’
Street food rules in the afternoon and after dark with tacos, grilled street corn, cheesy chorizo filled quesadillas and manchego and chilli popcorn. Meals to share are the thing to do in the evening; with jerk chicken, snapper, beef cheeks and lamb roast typical. Inside, high ceilings give a sense of space and openness and allow for whimsical touches like a giant peacock cage installation and a wooden staircase to a landing featuring – you guessed it – a perching peacock. Elk & Pea is well located close to many of Canberra’s northside hotels, a little intimate by night and bustling with a vibrant street scene by day.
