Events company The Fruitful Pursuit curate intimate (and extremely fun) winemaker-focused tasting experiences in cities around Australia and on Saturday the 18th of May, they are bringing one of their best ever events to Canberra.
After touring the country since 2016, Wine Playground is finally coming to the capital!
Organiser James Hopkins said, “The wine extravaganza brings a selection of producers from around Australia, who we believe represent the most soulful and conscientious side of the craft, and they will be flying in to showcase their wares at Highroad in Dickson.”
Award-winning local winemaker and RiotACT’s food and wine columnist, Bryan Martin, championed for the event to come to Canberra.
“Bryan Martin is spearheading the endeavour—he’s been a participant and strong advocate of our doings for some time. To be honest, Bryan is the reason we’re bringing the show to Canberra!” James said.
While representing regions from across the continent, Wine Playground brings together a selection of 19 of Australia’s most thoughtful ‘natural’ and ‘minimal intervention’ winemakers for a tasting indulgence.
Local winemakers Lark Hill, MADA, Mallaluka and Ravensworth will be joined by their interstate counterparts from CLO (NSW), Express Winemakers (WA), Frankly, this wine was made by Bob (NSW), Heretic (WA), Jauma (SA), Konpira Maru, (QLD), Les Fruits (SA), Livewire (VIC), One Block (VIC), Schmölzer & Brown (VIC), Sigurd (SA), Smallfry (SA), SOMOS (SA), Swinging Bridge (NSW), and Vinden Estate (NSW).
Noting that the event is on Saturday 18th of May, James said, “We’re well aware it’s election day. We think it’s rather fitting to host our inaugural event in the Australian capital on the day of the Australian Federal Election. The tasting begins at 2 pm to ensure you can vote early, then enjoy Wine Playground.”
A $65 ticket includes entry where you will enjoy music by Bar Rochford DJs, a take-home ‘TFP x Plumm’ glass (RRP $25), over 70 wines to taste poured by the winemakers themselves, as well as access to an afternoon of informal ‘Open Forum’ sessions to discuss Australian wine’s most relevant topics. The afternoon promises to not only introduce wine lovers to a few new drops but will also provide the perfect antidote to the election lead-up madness.
All the wines, many of which are small-batch or extremely limited in supply, will not only be available to taste but will also be made available to enjoy by the bottle at the event, or at home.
