Canberrans, dust off your putters and put your teams together to take full advantage of the “fantastical world of fun” opening soon in the city centre.
Funlab’s first Holey Moley mini golf course and Hijinx Hotel immersive game rooms will launch at the Canberra Centre in April, paired with crazy cocktails and delicious food in what’s being marketed as the “epitome of fun, competitive socialising”.
The 350-person capacity precinct contains four function rooms, karaoke, two themed bars, 18 holes of mini golf and 15 Hijinx quick playrooms, which include courses and challenges created specifically for Canberra.
Funlab CEO Michael Schreiber said the venue has been designed to be perfect for all ages and be more than the typical bar, pub or restaurant experience.
“At Funlab, we’re passionate about creating spaces where people can let loose and experience the joy they had as a kid in the playground as an adult,” he said.
“We combine competitiveness, fun, delicious eats and unique cocktails with a theatrical and immersive environment – a fun-filled experience like no other … where everyone can enjoy some healthy competitive socialising with friends, dates, colleagues and families.”
The venue will also employ 80 staff, known as Motherfunners.
For those confused about what a Hijinx Hotel is, it’s described as a frenzied, fantastical and Instagrammable experience.
“Instead of living it up for a night, guests will be able to experience quick play immersive rooms that combine the theatre and wonder of a quirky New York hotel, and the whimsical delight reminiscent of Willy Wonka meets Wes Anderson, within what seems like 15 hotel rooms,” a statement explained.
“This is no ordinary hotel; it’s where you play, not stay.”
The new rooms just for Canberrans are known as Clawesome, Zig-a-zag-ah Ball Pool, Abandoned Arcade and Basket Ballers.
As for Holey Moley, the labyrinth of holes gives off nostalgic 80s and 90s vibes, themed around pop culture and tunes of (some of) our childhoods.
It also features three holes designed especially for Territorians: Look for the Bear necessiTEES, Wheel of FORE-tune, and You Wanna Pizza Me.
There’s also the Caddyshack bar for all your off-the-green needs.
Canberra Centre general manager Gary Stewart said he couldn’t wait for these new experiences to be enjoyed by Canberrans and tourists alike.
“The addition of Holey Moley and Hijinx Hotel continues to elevate the experiential offers available to our customers with first-to-market experiences available at their doorstep,” he said.
The venues can be booked for hens/bucks activities, date nights and family fun (kids pricing available), a friend’s night out or team corporate events.
Pre-booking for Holey Moley and Hijinx Hotel experiences is now open; prices differ depending on your age and what experience you’d like to partake in. Both venues will operate out of the Canberra Centre, Monday to Thursday from 12 pm to 10 pm, Friday from 12 pm to 12 am, Saturday from 10 am to 12 am and Sunday from 10 am to 9 pm.
