Canberra slide guitar player and blues singer Owen Campbell will headline at Suitcase Rummage
Suitcase Rummage returns to the NewActon Precinct this Sunday with another great program of markets, food and music. Lovers of all things quirky, crafty and small enough to fit in a suitcase should get along.
Apartment living has its advantages, but not if you want to sell your old stuff, as the trusty garage sale is not an option. Having some means to buy and sell the un-loved, pre-loved and downright quirky is a good thing for those who don’t have the luxury of their very own pop-up store on their driveway. Hence the popularity of Suitcase Rummage. Add to that the ever-growing band of arty-crafty suitcase vendors and you have the makings of an event that is fast becoming a staple in Canberra’s calendar attracting craft lovers and vintage aficionados.
The last event held during this year’s Art, Not Apart festival was the largest market yet, with over 300 suitcases lined along West Basin next to the lake, and with music all day adding to the festive atmosphere and .
Not to be outdone, this Sunday’s Rummage will have a stellar line-up of musicians and dancers, including Canberra’s very own Owen Campbell, the cheeky busker who shot to fame in Australia’s Got Talent in 2012 – as much for his great talent as his in-your-face dig at a certain judge – who will headline, supported by locals Dubba Rukki and Mr Michael.
Coming off the back of a European tour supporting Andy McKee, Campbell returns home to welcome his new baby and will bring his unique mix of slide guitar and blues to Suitcase Rummage. To top it all off, there will be two dancers from the Sound and Fury Ensemble roving around the gardens and courtyard. And take-away soup will be served from A. Baker to keep the punters toasty warm!
