At Crumb Café we recently enjoyed one of the best coffees and best breakfasts we’re ever had. Perfectly textured latte and no need for an extra shot. Just delicious. We couldn’t resist a Crumb breakfast, the meals looked so delicious going past to other diners. A bowl of Bircher muesli came draped with lemon curd, surrounded by strawberries, watermelon, edible violas and fresh oozing honeycomb. It looked almost too good to eat. Brekky is served until 11:30 am and then it’s on to burgers, and veggie salads with loads of gourmet touches like pickles, crumbs, relishes, exotic fruit and nuts, and a well-stocked cabinet of edible goodness. A boutique café and coffee roaster in Batemans Bay, owned and run by Venetian Davide Pergola, his place roasts their own coffee and offers 19 different blends. “We have coffee to suit everyone’s taste!” says Davide. Also on offer is the absolutely fabulous enterprise of ‘Venetian Café Coffee Capsules’, and their website will let you know a tally how many they’ve sold (saved). Currently 49,999! Coffee roasted locally in Batemans Bay is now available in these capsules and it’s appropriately called ‘El Gusto’. Fully compatible with Nespresso coffee machines, they’re 100 per cent recyclable. You can locate Nourish on North by the beautiful fringed umbrellas on the street, shading locals just off the beach. Inside you’ll find a beautifully stocked cabinet full of healthy salads, grains and pulses, fat Turkish sandwiches ready for toasting, vegan delights and loads of healthy smoothies. The menu is enticing: big breakfasts, vegan French toast, and your avocado toast comes with Pepe Saya cultured butter. We had a very good latte sitting up at the window seat. Friendly, welcoming service and good vibes here, it’s also attached to an excellent health food store.

Friendly, cute, hip, stylish – welcome to the Rivermouth General Store. A place for a morning coffee under the skies of Tomakin, The Rivermouth serves a good breakfast and great selection of light lunches straight out of a very abundant cabinet. Plus, you’ll find smoothies and juices, jars, spiders and shakes, as well as intriguing variations like Dandelion Soy Latte and Brewed Spiced Chai. The breakfast menu is served until 11:30 am. It’s simple and straightforward, covering all bases with gluten free and vegan options. Keep cups, milk, tea-towels and other goodies are on show in an eclectic little storefront. Kick your shoes off.

Extremely popular, Mossy Café is big and busy with a bold menu. Much of the product is made from scratch, sourced locally and they pride themselves on knowing where everything comes from. There’s an excellent all-day menu offering sourdough breakfasts, loaded brekky fries and pimped up scrambled eggs, Mossy bowls of granola, smoothies, or Mexican salsa-laden salads, Seoul Bowls and Rainbow Salad Bowls. Strange and beautiful birds were calling from the trees shading us. Relax and enjoy.

Walking into Single Fin is a bit like walking into a beach party. Fake lawn, fringed umbrellas and surfboards adorn the interior. Sit back in a sun lounge and check out the retro vibe, where every corner is a cute vignette of surfboard bits, mirrors, lamps and quite loud shirts. It’s a very friendly vibe. Our lattes were delicious with well-textured milk and a good strong shot. They have a selection of gelato from Kiama producer The Pines, also pastries and bircher muesli in the cabinet, and refreshing natural juice pops. A very happy place in beautiful Broulee.

It’s always a bright, sunshiny kind of day at Killibinbin, a little café with a big heart in Broulee. A lovely vibe, big smiles, colourful and eclectic décor and loads of good stuff to eat and drink, both organic and wholesome. This place is a bit of a locals’ secret, and like many secrets it’s a little bit exciting to find. Noah’s Juices, Strangelove Sodas, big bowls of bounteous salads, take home Cool Beanz and Muesli, and darned delicious coffee! Good vibrations abound.
