Fricken is on the move with its biggest-ever flagship store opening soon in the Canberra Centre.

Fricken is closing its Braddon location to upsize and bring its chicken to a wider audience.

Brothers Mo and Marwan Saad wanted to share their Mum’s fried chicken with Canberra, so with their partners Heather and Manal, they started small, but had big ambitions.

“For us, fried chicken is a family dinner Sunday thing. Some families sit down to a roast, we did fried chicken,” said Mo Saad.

“Mum’s cooking and recipes are what we grew up on every weekend. So, in 2018, we started Fricken with one food truck in Canberra, just to share the chicken we loved.”

Fricken is beloved in Canberra for its great food, and also for its gluten-free fried chicken options: a rarity for gluten-intolerant diners. The new store will build on this reputation with a fully gluten-free frozen yoghurt bar, offering a range of toppings without the fear of cross-contamination. Signature yoghurt flavours and dairy-free options will also be available.

The new store will also be fully electric, and the new, up-to-date equipment will allow for better consistency, quality and speed. There will also be a range of new menu items: poke bowls, bone-in chicken, and premium smashed beef burgers, which have become favourites at stores up at the Gold Coast.

Since 2018, Fricken has become a multi-location brand with interstate branches. The brothers have big plans for their brand. They may have started small, but they’re hinting at an even broader expansion, perhaps taking Fricken even further afield.

“The move into Canberra Centre is about building a flagship store that represents what Fricken should be, so when we do expand, people see where it all started and know that’s the standard.”

“Canberra is our home, and we want the flagship here to be the best version of what we do, the one that sets the tone for everything that comes next.”

“And for the regulars who’ve been with us since the food truck days, this is the one we’ve been building towards.”

The new Fricken store is located at 148 Bunda Street, Canberra Centre. They hope to open in July. Follow Fricken on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok.
