Baan Latsamy

Popular Asian restaurant Baan Latsamy is well worth visiting if you are looking for quality Thai or Laotian food in Manuka or the inner south...

The cuisines of Thailand and Laos are well represented at popular Manuka restaurant Baan Latsamy. Translating literally as “Latsamy’s House” the name refers to co-owner and chef Latsamy Phimphravichith, the driving force in the kitchen here. Friendly and unpretentious, this eatery delivers authenticity of flavour and a delicate touch, making it one of the inner south’s most popular destinations for casual Asian dining. Expect Thai curries, spicy salads, noodle and rice dishes, as well as occasional specials like soft shell crab with black pepper and garlic or a spicy and delicious duck soup with egg noodles, chilli, basil and coriander.

Desserts are simple and range from ice cream and cakes to black sticky rice with fresh mango. Some local wines feature on the substantial wine list, although a good South East Asian beer may be the best thing to choose with the dishes on offer. The dining room has an open feel, with the full-length glass along two sides of the restaurant letting in ample light. Décor is a combination of warm brown walls and carpets with the odd bold colour, such as the interesting yellow cladding behind the bar, and covered outdoor seating is available on the alfresco terrace at the side of the restaurant.
