The Wild Spice

| Editor

There is a philosophy that is at the forefront of the way the team at The Wild Spice go about their business. Three famous words in Sanskrit literature dictate it: Atithi Devo Bhava. In English, it translates as ‘the guest is truly your God.’ Indians believe that they are honoured if they share their mealtimes with guests. Even the poorest look forward to guests and are willing to share their food. In the same way, you will feel the hospitality here from a small team that considers it an honour to deliver warm and friendly service. From the small but busy kitchen comes an array of authentic Indian & Nepalese dishes that are high on quality yet reasonably priced.

‘Indeed, The Wild Spice is about comfort food. Whilst this is mostly classic stuff and as familiar as it gets, it is done with a deft hand…’

In the cosy dogleg of a dining space, the smells from the kitchen hint at the spiciness and add to the warmth, bringing as much comfort to the nose as the food does to the stomach. Indeed, The Wild Spice is about comfort food. Whilst this is mostly classic stuff and as familiar as it gets, it is done with a deft hand. And for those that want to step away from the rogan joshes and the butter chickens, there is great seafood from the southern region of Goa and an interesting and rewarding selection of Nepalese. Typical is leg of lamb – off the bone and melt in your mouth –marinated and cooked in a thick yoghurt based sauce. The wine well considered and covers most bases, and also features some notable Canberra drops.
